FIST! presents…
A Workshop on Transformative Justice with Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha!
Thursday, April 26th 2 - 5 PM at The Evergreen State College
in The Longhouse, room 1007 A
This workshop will introduce the concepts of community accountability and transformative justice approaches to dealing with sexual assault and intimate partner violence- strategies that rely on community intervention rather than primarily relying on the police and criminal legal system. We’ll talk about why the cops and courts aren’t always a safe or effective form of intervention, as well as talking about the specific dynamics and challenges we face when confronting intimate violence within small communities. We’ll also, relying on the scholarship of feminist and queer people of color and allies such as UBUNTU, CARA, Philly Stands Up and STOP, look at specific models that have been successfully used to intervene in violence or harm without primarily relying on the state. This workshop moves from theory to practice, creating a space where we can talk honestly about the complex challenges of creating successful accountability processes and problem solve about how local Olympia interventions can be held more successfully. We’ll also discuss and build what intervention and emotional skills we need to develop in order to do this work sustainably and for the long haul. Participants will leave with a packet of resources and tools.

Power, Privilege, and Oppression Fundamentals Workshop
Tuesday, March 6th 12:00 - 3:00 in LIB 2205
This dynamic workshop, taught in the style of popular education, offers participants an accessible way to understand and challenge power, privilege and oppression inherent in our small communities and broader global community. Utilizing narrative tools and engaging activities to frame issues of racism, classism, sexism, homo & transphobia, ableism (and more), participants will leave with more comprehensive and complicated understanding of these systems of oppression as well as action steps and resources to make concrete changes and impacts.
Queer Liberation and Collective Liberation Workshop
Tuesday, March 6th 4:00 - 7:00 PM in SEM 2 B2109
How do dismantling the gender binary and anti-racism relate to uprooting classism and disability justice? In this workshop, we will explore the intersections of identity and liberation. By placing LGBTQ issues and gender justice at the center, we will discuss how queer liberation is tied up in all liberation — using a strong Anti-Oppression lens, this popular education style workshop will give participants a safe place to discuss power and privilege, reflect on the state of their communities and leave with concrete action steps to challenge and change the conversations and conditions in their communities and beyond.
Training for Trainers Workshop
Wednesday, March 7th 12:00 - 3:00 PM in SEM 2 B3105
Effective skills in popular education, curriculum planning, and fantastic facilitation skills are the backbone of this workshop. Whether you are a seasoned organizer and trainer, or you are brand new — this workshop will focus on strengthening skills and offering dozens of tools to improve facilitation and the overall workshops and events on campuses and in broader communities. Skills are also transferable to strengthening the facilitation of meetings for student organizations, campaign meetings, or community organizing.

FIST! Presents…
No One Wins In Patriarchy Week, Day 2!
Hey y’all!!
No plans or anything to do on the horrifying capitalist sham holiday known to most as Valentine’s Day? are you a punk? a radical? got a weird haircut? friendly and a little shy? interested in meeting potential new friends?
GREAT NEWS!
F.I.S.T, or Feminists in Solidarity Together, along with the Punk Rock Preservation Society, will be hosting this event as a part of their No One Wins in Patriarchy Week!
WHY THE QUOTATION MARKS?
When we say “speed dating”, we actually mean “speed friending”. We want everyone to feel safe. If you happen to make a mutual crush connection with someone(s), awesome! But the intention is to foster face to face interaction and friendship in a world that is increasingly more virtual.
You only have two minutes per person anyways!
(convo cards will be provided, too!)
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
Also enjoy a valentine station, where you can make cards for family, pets, roommates, friends, lovers, and prisoners (who always need extra care and consideration all year long.)
There will also be a photo booth with $1 pictures!
All money raised will benefit New Direction Fest.
more info here http://www.facebook.com/people/New-Direction-Fest/100002019129927
WE WILL NOT TOLERATE CREEPY OR OPPRESSIVE SHIT! this includes but is not limited to ableism, ageism, cissexism, classism, heterosexism, homophobia, racism, sexism, sizeism, slut shaming, transphobia, boundary crossing, etc… Those who make others feel unsafe will be asked to leave.
Participation is not required to attend the event, there will be time to hang out before and after the actual “speed friending”, which will last between 45 minutes to an hour.
All are welcome (students and non-students; single, non-monogamous, or committed), so long as they follow the ground rules. This event is queer positive, queer friendly, queer run! but of course all orientations are welcome!
Will start at 5:00 SHARP (no punx time) on the 2nd floor of the CAB in the Quiet Lounge.
